This is definitely the start of an historic era, but I think the passage of health care reform has left Americans even more confused. I hear people saying "so, what does this mean for me?" Even after watching these videos I still need clarification. All the formalities make the basic concepts difficult to understand. As for abortion, I think I understood that some people are against federal funding for cases that don't include rape, incest, or danger to the mother. If this is the case and we don't fund the abortions, we are still willing to pay more (with federal dollars) to practically raise the kid, right?
Remember when I commented how Obama's hand gestures signaled confidence. I think this was the day he wore a purple tie. Well I found this link for further explanation:
Purple tie explanation
The Steeple: Believed to be a sure sign of confidence this is most commonly used by a seated person and imparts a clear message of authority and serene control. In many cases this is a superior to subordinate hand gesture. It can also imply that the user is listening patiently and wisely while at the same time thinking deep and important thoughts. As such, it's similar to meditation postures. Still, if used too blatantly, it can be misinterpreted as supercilious or "master mind at work." It has been used often in B-grade "Hong Kong" movies usually performed by the master villain.

I agre that there is alot of confusion: what about care for those who are undocument or recent immigrants. I hear that they wont be allowed to purchase health insurance. This is unfair if not cruel. By simply allowing everyone to have the right to purchase insurance, this country may prevent taxpayers from having to foot some of the costs of uncompensated care delivered through emergency rooms where no one can be denied. I am thrilled and confused at the passage of this historic bill but also convinced that we still have a long ways to go.
